Remap Or Clutch
« on: October 13, 2014, 08:24:17 pm »
Quick question, What are the clutches like on the Mk5 GTI, do they stand up well to a stage one remap, or is it a good idea to invest in a new clutch before doing a remap?

Back when the GTI was new everyone was mapping without any problems.

My clutch slipped straight away at Stage 1, and most people are finding they have clutch slip after a map now these cars are getting older.

Depending who maps your car, if it's a custom map you can ask for a lower torque map to preserve your clutch.

I'd budget for a clutch though

Well the car is standard at the moment with 88K, and the clutch feels good, but you never know until you do it, right?

Not the same car but I had my old TDI mapped at 72k miles. Was advised the clutch might be an issue especially with the mileage. Sold it at 101k and it was still going.... Pretty high bite by then though lol

As has been said I would budget for it but sod changing it until it slips imo

What clutch would be good for a stage one? I'm in same boat as op might just chance mapping it and see how it goes

I'm having a Helix clutch fitted by Statllers in the next few weeks (when it arrives  :jumpmove:) ready for mapping my ed30

Helix seems to get the best reviews over the Sachs. Check out Awesome GTI's website  :happy2:

You never know how it will last but as above budget for one, my car was mapped at about 90k and is now on 98k and has never slipped once, the car gets driven properly and I've done 10 1/4 mile runs in it. I can't find any receipts to say its not the original clutch so as far as I know it is and of it is it has held up very well.

Nice figures, What mods are you using? I'm looking to go R-Tech stage 2+ soon.

I had my 05 manual gti mapped at 104k. I had a bit of clutch slip in 6th gear about a month after and it hasn't done it since and im on 108k now. It's best to budget for a clutch just in case. It seems to be hit and miss mate. Just map and see what happens

No, the DSG's don't need replacing until you go seriously big power.
