Talk to me about highline clocks/cluster
« on: October 14, 2014, 09:49:25 am »
Hi All

I'm new to the VW scene and I've seen a lot of threads about highline clocks

Can someone explain what the differences are between the type of clocks available and which is the latest model highline that I should be looking at in installing in my 2007 GTi?

cheers

You need to know what model clocks youre running at the minute. A scan can tell you this, or take your clocks out and read the sticker on the back.

any ending in 970 971 972 973 974.

970 971 and 972 can be easily coded using vag commander, 973 and 974 is a bit different.

Multi function steering wheels only work with 973 and 974.

Okey dokey, so as I have the multifunction steering wheel I will require a set of clocks ending in either 973 or 974?

Not true that bud, I have a MFSW with a 960D speedo and everything works properly.

To the OP 970, 971 or 972 are the easiest to code. I would go for that. other than that I am 99% confident the speedos are all the same. Just different years have different model numbers

Have you got the older or newer style mfsw?

Mine can access the menus in the speedo using the right hand side buttons.

Another one here with mfsw: had 962 midline clocks, now 972 highline and buttons work fine. That said, mine's 2005 so I don't know if the mfsw or controller changed by 2007?

That's strange? When I put my mfsw on my old golf it didn't work,  had to change it to a  973 clock and it worked.

Must have been another reason perhaps.
Just realised above I only referenced my old speedo which was a 960. I had the upgraded to  a 972, which is regarded as an early speedo.

Also I'm pretty sure there are no other differences in terms of speedo other than you need a specific VAG commander cable to access the SKC codes on later speedos ending 3 or 4. Whether midline or highline.
