Boot trim query - help needed from R32 owners...
« on: October 13, 2014, 10:11:21 pm »
Hey all,

I need help from an R32 owner. I've fitted the VW foam inserts in my boot which allows me to fit a full size spare wheel, rather then the cruddy space saver fitted as standard.
I still have the standard boot floor carpet trim, which on the ED30 isn't reinforced to the edges, only in the circular area which covered the space saver.

I understand R32's come from the factory with foam inserts in place? So therefore have boot carpet trims which are reinforced to the edges?
My standard carpet is sagging where there are the voids in the foam inserts due to the lack of the reinforcing.

Could someone do me a favour and let me know the part no of the boot carpet which is reinforced to the edges?

Hope this makes sense - can post up pics if not!

Cheers,
Dave

Do you not need to replace the entire boot carpet now?

My one has the full size wheel and my entire carpet is reinforced across the entire base with a plastic type material.

Looks like you need a whole new carpet base. Mine isn't and ED30 but can my part number if it's of use.

I'd say they're pricey so my advice would be to make your standard one rigid with a diy. What do you have to lose.

Get some thin plastic and cut it to size then glue it underneath. That's all VW have done I'd say.

Thank-you guys, much appreciated!  :drinking:
I'll try VW for a price on the part first, and if it's too extortionate then I can always try to reinforce my existing boot floor carpet.
Cheers,

Dave
