Engine warning light (mk5 golf gti)

This appeared yesterday evening, turned the car off and on again and its still on.

Drove the car home gently and have it booked in with VW on Saturday, I am hoping it's just a sensor!

My question is are there any sensors prone to failing?

The car still runs and drives fine with no power loss, juddering etc.

Could be a million and one things. Going to vw for a scan is the most expensive option. I'd look for someone nearby with vcds or buy an obd adapter.

Luckily a friend works for them so diagnosis will be free.

Light has now gone off!!
