Flat Tire's GLI
« on: October 09, 2014, 08:09:06 am »
*mods move to projects please*

My car's getting a Golf R K04 along with the following supporting bits:
  • IE HPFP
  • RS4 FPRV, stock injectors, 3 bar MAP
  • Custom 2.5" charge piping
  • Pre-turbo WM injection
  • BOV
  • No intercooler for greater flow
  • Tune by Flat Tire
Here are a couple pics of things as they are now:

The rear door windows are made of polycarbonate, like the Pikes Peak Jetta.

That's my water methanol tank and, no, it's very safe. Considering a fuel cell replacement down the road.

I also got used PSS10 for $1000, which work OK.

Engine bay:

Other mods include:

  • WOTbox
  • PSS10, poly bushings, Bridgestone RE-11
  • Vaccum system simplified, PCV dump, evap delete
  • AC compressor / condenser / lines delete
  • Runner flap delete
  • ECU and battery (3lb lithium) relocated to cabin
  • Stainless brake lines, pads, fluid
  • Driver safety delete; airbags, airbag ECU, wiring and sensors have all been removed.
  • "Some" weight reduction (2700lbs), and too many other things to list

I also disabled the immobilizer so the plan is to ditch the stock gauge cluster and use a custom display fed by the canbus.

Goals:
My tune will be optimized for top end roll racing taking full advantage of the pre and post-turbo WM. I hope to take the car to at least 170 MPH. Highest GPS speed reached with the k03 was 156 MPH. This car is built for fun and will sometimes be daily driven

Looks like it will be a fun build, Ill keep my eye on it.

Will you not need some bigger brakes if you are running those kinds of speeds?  :driver:

You'd hope so with all the airbags taken out!

Got the turbo in today and did some more work on the car.

First I prepared the radiator to mount without an intercooler:

Then I took the compressor housing off my new turbo to check things out...

Closeup of the wheel...nice machined aluminum. My K03 had a magnesium wheel which is cooler if I'm honest. Still, this one looks like it'll do.

Also picked up some compression fittings for my nylon WM line so I can get rid of most of those damn pushlocs. May switch to stainless braided teflon later but so far the nylon is holding up without issue.
