A/c issue..
« on: October 22, 2014, 12:28:14 pm »
If car is idling and you press a/c button...should you be able to hear the compressor kicking in??
I have changed my control panel to a 2012 setup and set basic settings which I'd fine.
Light comes on when I press for a/c but don't seem to get the burst of cold air i was expecting...
Any ideas??

Not really as it isn't the clutch type of old.

I once changed an ECON panel for an AC one and it would not engage the compressor. If you have VCDS then measuring blocks shows the status when you switch it on.

If your old panel spits out aircon, then I'd guess your new panel is incompatible with your ECU.

I thought in mk5 golfs with dual zone climate control as in the GTI models, the AC always runs unless you press the ECON button. That might be the issue you're having. As the panel you have has a AC button rather than an ECON button.

EDIT: The mk6 panels have AC butons and they work. So its prob what Skard said, too new?

With the AC on either use VCDS to check the compressor current if not use this to check various temperatures

Yeah the econ button on is actually turning the aircon off. Tells you in the manual.

The OP never mentioned ECON functions, it was me giving an example trying to get the point across that different panels aren't always compatible with your ECU.

Measuring blocks in HVAC definitely tells you the status of the compressor, and if it hasn't engaged, what has stopped it.
