Rust warranty all sorted but charging me for a polish?
« on: October 20, 2014, 03:11:04 pm »
Hey guys,

Just been on the phone with VW and they have agreed to pay 100% cost of replacing and respraying wings under the rust warranty. However the guy said to me that my car would need a polish to blend everything in as the front would look all new and different from the rest. He quoted me around £100 to polish the sides.

Does this sound right what he was telling me or is he just trying to make some money?

Thanks
Craigh

Polishing is just for paint surface protection. Can't fathom why he would say "my car would need a polish to blend everything in..." as any colour blending is supposed to be done whilst painting.

In any case I've always been told not to polish/wax newly painted panels till around 6-8 weeks  to allow gassing to occur unless the paint has been baked on like at the factory.
Without traction power is nothing!

Sounds fishy to me. Ask another VW garage what their process is and get back to him.

What's he going to do, polish it with dirt to make it look old like the other panels?

Answer is in the question....warranty!!!..
Don't dare pay a penny for an issue under warranty.

So if you for arguements sake you got an engine replaced under warranty after a part failure, would you be liable to pay for new oil and coolant or if the g201 sensor on abs unit failed and warranty covered it,would you pay for the brake fluid so they could bleed it proper?..

Chancers!!...that's all they are
2007 TR gt170...heated leather,underseat drawers,auto-levelling bi-xenons,puddle leds,chrome switches,footwell lights f+r,cruise control and ed30 rear lamps,LED interior....carbon highline clocks,ed30 front spoiler,RNS 510 P+MDI,mk6 gti gearknob,TPMS done,complete r32 trim kit+ MFSW,r32 f+r brakes,RLS fitted.headlamp washers,folding mirrors and boot pop,mk6 RVC,19"Helios,AP coilies,valeo LEDs  ...dpf delete and remap to finish off

Load of rubbish about the polishing, I can't see why they would be wanting to charge for anything given they have agreed to cover 100% costs for the repairs so stand your ground on this one.

All else fails just say "that's OK, I'm happy for it not to be polished" and just play along with what I suspect is rubbish.

Moving over to Flickr, sorry for the broken picture links!

They are wanting to polish the rest of your car to match the nice shiny clean wings. IMO this should be done as standard after any dealer body shop has worked on your car, how the hell can they tell if the finish matches the rest without polishing .... The rest.

I certainly wouldn't pay for it, I would also ensure yor car is fully cleaned prior to return. This way you can look for overspray, bad workmanship etc.

That is exactly what they want to do. I don't think I explained myself at the start. They want to Polish the sides of my car so it matches the shiny new wings. But after what you just said any everybody else's comments I definitely won't pay for anything! And now they are covering every case 100% of the cost, if they say they are not going to polish then I will take it to another dealer :)

I just hope they do a good job. I've read some horror stories on here where vw have really messed up the respray!

I don't think I would trust a dealer to polish my car. I follow a couple of detailers on Facebook and they are always having to fix brand new cars that come straight from the dealers.

I've had to wait 3 months to get an appointment with my vw body shop guy to even look at the wings.

I'd also agreed that the car would benefit from a full machine polish.
