mine did this  over a year or so ago, i just had the software update done at VW and its been fine ever since.  i think the update costs around the £60 mark if you have to pay for it yourself

thanks lads, got some good feedback on this, it does seem to be the ecu needing to be updated, more than anything its a relief to know its not something major in terms of a mechanical fault, will give those chaps a ring nasir

brett - the thing with vw is that they are saying they would want to do their own diagnostic first even though ive already had it done, its bringing up that error and from the information ive got back including you guys on here, it seems to be an ecu update, will try them again, see what they say but its good to know what it is
