Adhesive for heated wing mirror glass?
« on: October 22, 2014, 03:03:09 pm »
Hey guys,

During the summer while my car was parked outside my house, the heat of the sun melted the glue of my left hand side wing mirror and the glass ended up hanging off. Well it has finally come off and smashed on the floor.

I ordered a new piece of glass which comes with a sticky pad on it, which doesn't look like it will stick to the heated element for long. Also if I did stick it on I don't see how the heat would get to the glass with a pad in between it.

So does anyone know of an adhesive I could use instead to stick the whole piece of glass to the heater element?

Thanks
Craigh

Araldite. Needs time to cure though.

I used some 3M double sided tape, been perfect ever since.

Never tried Araldite myself, however with vibration and the heat from the heated mirrors I'd be worried it might crack after a while!

I would also suggest 3M, strong and permanent bonding

3M sounds good!

Would it still allow the heat through to the glass?

I used Evo-Stik Serious Glue adhesive when my driver side mirror almost flew off on the motorway. It needs a bit of time to settle (I left mine to bond overnight to make sure) but it is waterproof and has temperature resistance of -30c to 130c so that ought to be enough! Had no issues with the mirror since. :happy2:
