Need Some Info on Snowfoam
« on: October 25, 2014, 01:04:46 pm »
Looking at investing in a Snowfoam lance and some Snowfoam.

Just a couple of questions, has anyone bought a decent lance to attach to their Karcher on eBay?  There are loads, just want to get one that actually works!!

Also, there seems to be a few different types of Snowfoams, whats the best type other forum users have used?  Any links would be great.

Thanks.  :happy2:

Cheapest on ebay is from directhoses, was just over twenty quid. I'm using Bilt Hamber auto-foam, but it's not very foamy. Seems effective though.

Autobrite's foam lance is the best...

Snow foam is just a pre-wash agent... some foam up a lot some don't... Bilt hamber doesn't foam that much but cleans very well... others may foam for up to one hour but not actually clean much which kind of defeats the whole point in my opinion.. !!

I recently bought "Deal 4" from the group buy on DW.  http://www.detailingworld.co.uk/forum/showthread.php?t=183611.

Can't recommend the Magifoam enough.  I also opted for a free bottle of the Super Snow Foam which I haven't used yet though.  Once this has all been used up I'll be trying other products though, just to see if there are any better for the price :)

Recently ordered this for my Karcher:

As for snow foam I usually use demon foam, found it works really well.
Looking for some BBS CH/LM Reps to swap for my Classix plus cash your way:

I use BiltHamber foam with an EliteCarCare lance and its a great combo. As jay said, that particular foam isn't very thick unless you go through it neat on the strongest setting, but it cleans very well and smells lovely

Just be careful because it can degrade waxes and sealants when used that strongly... you don't need that much and it doesn't need to be a thick, long cling foam, it's not designed to be.
Ideally you want a 7-10% PIR (panel impact ratio) which basically means that 7% of whatever coming out of your foam lance is actually bilt hamber product.
in reality you can't calculate that without a lot of faffing around with mathmatics so around 1-1/2 inches of product topped with water to a fill (in a 1L bottle) on maximum foam setting gets you roughly that.

If you want a longer dwell time you can always add 1/4 ounce or so of a bubbly shampoo into the foam lance after you add your Inch or so of Autofoam in a 1L spray gun but again this can effect cleaning and your wax/sealant.

Magifoam is a good snow foam. It's noticablely less good at cleaning than Autofoam but it's better than most others out there... if you want a foam which cleans 7/10 and foams for a long time then Magifoam is the better foam. but for cleaning power the autofoam is a better choice.
