Hi all,

Had my 05 GTI for a few weeks and taking back to the Stealers next week to get a couple of things looked at.  Thought I would ask your excellent advice first before they fob me off with some poor answers.

I have a noise coming from the dashboard behind the climate control buttons.  Not a creaking sound but a rocking noise which changes if I turn the climate on and off.  Sometimes it will make the noise even without touching the controls.  Sounds a bit like a marble rolling around in the dashboard.  Anyone come across this?

Have noticed a strong smell of petrol on start up in the mornings in the car plus outside of it when I get to work.  I would expect this a little due to the colder mornings but this is much stronger than I have ever experienced before and have had 3 other VAG cars in the past. Usual for the golf gti?

My rear parking sesnors are a bit eratic.  I have read they should beep once when you activate reverse but they seem to be going off when there is nothing behind me.  I have slight slope when I reverse out of my driveway and they also go off then but surely they are not that sensitive.  I have a 3 series BMW with them as well and they are much better.  Would be good to get our views on how yours work?

Apart from that loving the car.  On holiday next week so will be spending alot of time cleaning and waxing to get it well preapred for the winter, will then post some pics!

Cheers.

The creaking noise comes from the ventilation flaps, which are controlled by the climatronic system to move air around various ducts behind the dash. Not really a problem but the noise sometimes makes you wonder....

The dash noise is common, but i would still ask for them to check it. As for the smell of petrol, one of our members had this same fault, i think it was VW Rascal or TomB but i cant realy remember.
If you do a search of there posts you should find it.  :happy2:

Not me for once!

Sorry to hear of your issues, with your parking sensors, are they aftermarket or original fit?  The OE ones are flush in the bumper whereas aftermarket ones sit proud.

Do you have an iPod adaptor installed?  Sounds strange but my old iPod control module used to knock on the back of the climate control panel when driving along.

Just had a call from the stealers and the petrol smell is apparently the fuel injectors that have gone.  The garage has advised me not to drive the car and are keeping hold of it over the next few days to get it repaired.  Not sure how dangerous the car is, have been driving it like that for the last 4 weeks!  The thing that really annoys me is that VW Norwich are still not sure if it is covered under the warranty despite the fact the fact I bought the car only 6 weeks ago and it it has a full VW approved used warranty.  Hopefully it will be covered but they do not exactly give you much piece of mind, you pay a premium price for their cars and then at the first sign of trouble they don't want to know.  Will find out tomorrow if they authourise the repairs.

The knocking noise is the ventilation flaps, plus the parking sensors are aftermarket fitted so they can't help on that either, such wonderful service! No really bothered if they are aftermarket or not, they sold me a car and the senors don't work so why can't they replace them?  Shocking!  Last time I buy from a VW main dealer again!

seems like most places are like that mate, official dealerships or non official they all wana forget you once they get paid lol

got mine off redline racing in harrogate, lovley chap when showing me around and let me take the car for a testdrive on my own, was very polite! once i signed on the dotted line things seem to change! withing 2 weeks the cruise stopped working, rang them, didnt want to know, had to kick up abit of a fuss about it, he even had the cheek to swear at me down the phone, i have never dealt with such poor customer service before , got the work done by them but eventhough i have warranty till december, i would rather go to someone else than deal with them again.

There's a surprise!

I bought my car from Redline in Harrogate too. It broke down the day after I bought it. I rang them up and told them and the guy said: "What do you want us to do about it?"
FIX IT!

Finally got the car back form the stealers today.  Fuel injectors replaced at a cost of £500, thank god I have a warranty as I would not fancy paying that out myself.  The stealers said they have had a couple of GTI's with that problem in the past.  Anyone else had the fuel injector issue, just out of curiosity?

Nothing they can do about the aftermarket rear sensors, although they never mentioned they were aftermarket when they sold it to me.  I would not trust them as far as I could throw them!

Full prep work for the winter tomorrow, polish seal and collinite wax.  Will hopefully post some pictures.

Often when we buy second hand cars there not quite looked after as much as we would like. Even when there is supposed to be a reputable dealer in the middle.
Hopefully you can now look forward to enjoying your GTI.  :happy2:

PS, not heard of the fuel injectors going before on these cars.  :surprised:
