Absolutely certain as I chose the smoking pack (even though I don't smoke) as I didn't like the look of the little cubby recess you got in front of the esp and abs buttons without it. You got a flip lid covering that with the smoking pack.

Like said, this was a no cost option with the early mk5 but VW started charging for it later in the car's production life.
