Another option for a MK5 BBK.. (TT-Rs)
« on: November 12, 2009, 08:01:57 pm »
Seems the TT Shop are now doing the front brake set-up from the TT-RS, Bembo 4 pots and what look like a 2 piece disc? very reasonable at £1500 inc vat imo  :happy2:

Wow - 370mm discs!! Look like the ATE type 2 piece on pins where you junk the lot when used??

I've give it 24hrs before Dave has worked out what Brembo caliper it is, what else it is found on and shaved 50% off that price.

FTW.
Sideways yo!

Yeah i'm sure Dave will have worked his particular brand of brake magic on this kit soon enough
Even at £1500 inc vat its still a bloody great price for the kit on offer though  :happy2:

Yep already had a look...

Very shallow discs at around 45mm deep so almost impossible to get any brakes behind them without something like a 20mm spacer over a 7.5J rim such as a Pescara or Monza. The TT-RS comes with 19's which I think are 9J.

So a really good option for a MkII TT owner.

Good news is the discs look good and I can pick them up for around £350 the pair and being 370mm means that they are a really good candidate to chuck some GT3RS calipers over, I'm ashamed to say Ive got a couple of sets under the stairs.

Also got some Carrera GT (V10) rears which are the same as the RS4 ceramic caliper family. These are good for 380mm, so for somebody with fat 19's they'd be good to use.

I'm more horned up about plans to use them with a S3/R32 Caliper with some clever bracketry - Wife has banned all things brakes right now until she gets to see the top of the dining room table again - says she's forgotten what it looks like... :ashamed:

....Which is why I can see you've moved your brakes stuff to the kitchen! Or is it the bathroom?

Yep - thats my toaster!!

Wifeys' great, any flat surface is normally covered in brake bits Im ashamed to say, in the early days when I migrated some Mk4 312 pistons that Id painted to inside of the bedroom, to dry on the radiator I got the "We need to talk" talk.

Bless her!

DaveB1970, will these TT-RS brakes fit on a MK5 with 18" Monzas without spacers?

Being fair to the TT store you would need to ask them, but I have been looking at Monza/Pescara/CH's/7.5/8.0J clearances more so than usual in the last couple of weeks and I would say probably no.

They would of course be a great reason to upgrade to 19's in which case in you could fit truck brakes if you fancied...

I'm also a little skeptical as to radial clearances on a 370mm disc on the inside of an 18" rim, having said that the calipers have two pad pins and not a central one so they should be fairly low profile once they're on - be tight though.

Its really a kit for 19's

But speak to TT Store they're a good bunch they'll sort you out.
