***Car conked out on me!***
« on: November 03, 2014, 12:02:51 pm »
hey guys, just wondered if someone could help me with regards to what has recently happened to my golf, i was just pulling away onto a bypass and it totally died on me, i had to be recovered and now the car wont start, it ticks over fine and will literally start for not even a second and then it just dies. before taking it to some over priced garage that don't have a clue i was wondering if anyone else has had the problem? my car is only a 2.0 FSI but i couldn't find any decent forums! any help would be great thankyou!!!

Any MIL's on?
Did the AA/RAC/Recovery check it over? Any suggestions from him/her.

Best bet, as usual, is to have it scanned, is anyone local to you: http://www.mk5golfgti.co.uk/forum/index.php/topic,88875.0.html

A friend of mine had a similar problem with it cutting out.
Think its was knox sensor.....worth a look
Hope it helps but defiantly worth scanning it

Sadly no one in the surrounding area has any VAG etc, but i just wanted to try get a view of what it could be before getting it towed to a specialist in the area, i literally plan on getting it fixed and selling it so i can get a GTI !

Sounds like the Immobiliser to me, common on vw, will run but only for one second! Get it scanned for sure and see what it brings up.

This happened to me on my old megane, would start up then die strait away, if I kept revving it slightly and not letting it die it was fine after about 30 seconds, but sometimes when it was cold it would drive fine (after the start up routine) for a while and then die when lifting off the accelerator (coming up to a round about for example so f*cking annoying/embarising if I could have got out and there's people behind)

Turns out it was a cam shaft sensor, it was a cheap fix but problem came back after a couple of thousand miles

Rather than just trying to read the engine module, did he set a full scan going? If so, was it at this point the engine was un-reachable?
