So my love affair with the Golf is over - we just didn't see eye to eye anymore, hopefully tomorrow we will part ways.

Had a look at three Passat CC's today all with roughly the same mileage and service history and worryingly all with out a recent DSG service or cam belt change.

So the big question is based on a 59 plate (2010) with circa 55k on the clock with full VWSH but no history or cam belt change or DSG service should i walk away?

Managed to speak with my local VW Dealer just before their service desk closed and they stated the service interval was 140k miles and isn't age dependant.

Think it's 5yrs or 50k on cambelt. If the dsg hasn't been serviced at 40k then walk away

Ive just made the jump to a Passat CC 170 also  :happy2:

According to the handbook, the cambelt interval is every 140k miles with no time interval stated.

In regards to the the DSG servicing, it might be an idea to give VW Customer services a call (quoting the reg) and ask if the DSG services have been carried out. Its possible that the paperwork has simply been lost. If the cars all have FVWSH, i would find it hard that the dealership would neglect to tell the customer that the DSG service was due!

Hope this helps

Rich

I was under the distinct impression that the DSG had to be serviced every 40k miles!?

And this is what concerns me as all the cars i have looked at with DSG have not had their 40k service even those with FVWSH or at least its not been stamped in the maintenance schedule.

I would advise the above and phone VW HQ asking to confirm, could be poor admin by the VW dealers it's been serviced at. Although end of the day, use that to get money off and then get it done yourself anyway regardless so you know it's been done?

My uncle bought a remapped Passat 2.0 TDI sport which didn't show any history of a DSG change, so he took it in himself and got it done, it's not had any issues despite being well overdue when it went in.

Hi Rich. It certainly does. What plate is yours on. I am looking at 10-11 at the moment, would like to stretch to a face lift but that would stretch my budget.

I will be giving them a call in the morning to check the service history on the three cars i have narrowed the search down to. :)

So the golf is now sold and after 12 months 27,000k miles or ownership i feel i need a change and am REALLY liking the Passat CC but am still unsure if i want the DSG or stick with manual. Once thing i have noticed is the delay in changing gears when pushed hard in 1-2-3. I don't think it will be too much of an issue and it lacks the manual feel.

Taken directly from VW's webstie.

"How often does it need to be changed?
The oil, every 40,000 miles, the filter may need to be changed as well."

At 59k with no previous record of a change I would give it a miss.  I know its annoying when you think you've found the one, good mileage, right price, right spec etc but you'll be kicking yourself if you get hit with a massive bill in 6 months time.

we have an '11 model. The facelift CC was just out of our budget. No regrets though as it meant we got a decent spec model for a decent price rather than having to squeeze that little extra budget to only be able to afford a poverty spec facelift CC.

Picked up a 2010 Passat CC 140 GT (manual) this afternoon. Excellent spec for the money. Photos to follow :)
