If you physically force it past the rev limiter - like changing from 5th into 1st instead of 3rd you WILL cause some damage, the rev limiter will be useless to the mechanical forces of the drivetrain.Few Civic Type-R drivers did this

However Im still sure I put it into neutral and not 2nd gear, but it still hit into the red line regardless :(
