DO you not find it strange that a job you started out thinking "I'd like to do that, seems like a good idea" very rapidly turns into an all consuming "I MUST DO IT, there's no other way"..?

Moving over to Flickr, sorry for the broken picture links!

Every single job on my car has been like that apart from the cherry red hazard switch.
I'm going to cover most of the inner door and not be so picky.

A bit more progress today.

The inner skin in now deadened. TBH this is an absolute PITA don't think i will bother doing the other side.

And more problems the mid does not fit the door card i can probably get it screwed down but surely it needs to be a tight fit?

Also the stock large speaker fits flush to the piece of foam in the door card. The adapter does not again shouldnt it sit flush?

@xjay1337 any pointers here mate?

Thanks mate i remember looking at that a while ago. People don't seem to be bothered about the gap between the mid and the door card. I will get the router out tomorrow and try and make an adaptor.

Made some adaptors for the mids today hopefully they will get a good seal against the door cards now.

Also installed the tweeter dont think these tweeters come apart so ripped out the grill.

sh*tty progress still need to get the cable through the door, another door, the rears and boot build to go.

But did get to do a bit of soldering and use some heat shrink.

Finally something was much easier than expected.

Drilled out a couple of pins in the door connector for the speaker wire.

@th3_f15t no problem mate will take some pics and notes when i do the other side.

One step forward and two steps back as usual. I know many people are running these speakers. @Shoduchi @xjay1337

But the mid does not fit. Ive trimmed down the mounting ring on the door card. I can probably pop the door card on but there is a lot of pressure on the door card. I doubt the cap that goes behind the mid will go back on.

Surely it cannot be good sound wise if the mid is touching the inner skin.

Thanks again guys. Any help would be appreciated.

I've asked my expert friend his opinion about this problem.

From what I've read in this DIY: http://www.golfmkv.com/forums/showthread.php?t=184416, there's no problem with the speakers touching the inner door skin.

When my friend gets back to me, I'll inform you what he thinks about this.

Although i think the mid is too big. i carried this afternoon.
Cut the foam and stuck the crossover with industrial velcro.
Soldered cable to speakers and ran and secured all the wires.

Added anderson power pole connectors so i can plug things in easily.

I'm going to hook it up to the stock wires for now. Any ideas what wires are the + - from head unit.

Seems your well under way with this already. I have the HSK 163 kit and the mid is the HL70. Much smaller unit

http://www.hertzaudiovideo.com/hl-70/

This is a much better direct fit.

I think because you went for the "L" version the speakers are much bigger and deeper.

Thanks mate! So as usual i make things harder for my self by buying the wrong speakers.

If i buy a smaller hertz mid will it work ok with the crossover?

I'm going to attempt and get everything back to together switching out a speaker or even all the speakers would be easy now that all the hard work it done.
