Went to my car today to find a puddle in the rear drivers side footwell rubber mat  :fighting:

Looking on google plenty of people have had woes with leaking doors/seals on Mk6s. My heart sank.

My seals look fine on the door and car body. Drains dont appear to be blocked and let water through.

Then I saw that some people have leaky speakers where seals have failed on them and let water through to the interior.

I removed the door entry light in the doorcard and stuck my finger in to find it was wet ( raining atm) so can safely say that my speaker seal is shot. (light is right by the speaker so think thats a definitive diagnosis)

So I've put some plastic tucked into the door seal to route water coming from the leak into the rubber mat and when I have time I will strip off the doorcard and fix it.

Seeing as I was going to do a dynaudio setup I may just remove the speaker and put a blanking plate over the hole and seal as an interim measure until I do that.

Will partially strip the door trims and see what the moisture is like in the carpets. To the touch they are ever so lightly damp immediately around the leak area and nowhere else and no damp smell or mould visible so hope that means theres no serious damp issues.

Don't you just hate when stuff like this happens grrrr!!

I just finished reading this. Superb job on DSG conversion!
Hat's off to you sir!  :congrats: :congrats:

HMMMM...I'm now thinking if it can be done for my Cupra also...
Could you please tell me what are the steps for this operation? What wiring needs to be done?

It is a very involved modification. You will need

-DSG box with consumables and oils/filters
-Mounts
-Flywheel
-Shifter mech
-ECU software reflash
-Driveshafts
-Wiring and consumables, pins, plugs (built the loom on the car around the components to test before binding and routing the loom properly)
-Mating parts and bolts between gearbox and engine
-DSG paddle-compatible SWCM
-Vagcom
-A proper set of ramps/lift and workshop
-A lot of guts and patience as you have seen

If you decide to go ahead you are as mad as me... think I am the only one to convert a manual engine to DSG so would be nice to have a similarly mad friend haha!  :drinking:

PFFF....i am mad, but not that mad.

If i am going to do this, it will be done during the next winter, because I'm in participating in a small time attack championship. Until then i'll try to find the parts needed, talk to my mechanic and find the budget. Unfortunately, there are no DSG Cupras manufactured, so for example a Cupra steering wheel with DSG paddles cannot be found.
Thanks for the info, i belive u are the pioneer on this forum.
It is a megaproject, all i can say is WOW! :drinking:

Anything is possible including adding DSG paddles with some heavy modification of the wheel.

There is always a way, wonder not... just pluck up some courage, do your homework and you will succeed

(I should make a quote of that  :drinking: )

UPDATE: Investigated the leak by taking off the doorcard, drying everything and performing water test.

Water is seeping through the bottom of the speaker due to failed seal and there are cracks in the speaker enclosure around the rivet points which I was very surprised about (and angry!) which were also letting in water.

Rivetting too tight or poor materials but that's disappointing from VW. Especially since water ingress can ruin a car!

Thankfully there is very minimal ingress in my case. As I'm away Iv put a load of tissuepaper around the speaker, ordered some drill bits and will drill out the rivets and seal everything off till I can do the Dynaudio retrofit.

absolutely top job. You don't see many people who would mod a 1.4!!. :driver:
what filter have you got installed, looks like a different housing box with a K&N filter?

Cheers mate!

1.4 turbo only unit have less reliability issues than the twincharger version.

Still get nearly around 40mpgs and dsg fart noises, and am going to get around 200ish bhp after I do the turbo and cooling.

Yep its a k&n .. came with @rex  recommendation. Sounds amazing

I'm not sure of the cost of a Dynaudio kit to retro fit, but have you considered using Focal components? They do a complete range of VW integration speakers and their amps are amazingly small, easy enough to fit under the driver's seat. I've been considering ripping out my entire Dynaudio sound system, including the head unit, and run a dual amp system with a subwoofer in the spare wheel well... It's a lot of money but I reckon it'd make a killer audio set-up.

Moving over to Flickr, sorry for the broken picture links!

I've already bought everything.. The only component of the install that was pricey was the wiring loom, rest I got for a song!

Iv got an OEM wheel well sub off an audi Q3/5, removed the crappy sub speaker for a Bose one and a Dedicated sub amp.. and tap that into the Dynaudio setup. Going to install sound insulation/deadening alongside so that should improve things noticeably too!

I've got a full size spare wheel so that is possible.. not so with a spacesaver.
