Aren't those 7-speed DSG more prone to problems and can handle less torque? O.o

Iv got a brand new gearbox to go in and its made after all the technical bulletins so should be fine. And I cannot use different gearbox as only 7 speeds were made for my engine code. So stuck between rock and a hard place in that respect. Clutches are dry and not wet like earlier DSGs so should be easier to swap in future. Power and torque-wise Im just doing a Stage 1 map. to run about 160bhp and dsg rated to 250Nm torque so Ill be well within that.

And thanks Raz!

Of course I hope all goes well and the new DSG handles the torque required.

Don't forget to share pictures. It's a rare mod.

I hope so too!! Iv had the same map on my manual box and it handles it just fine. So should be fine! Will ease it in on stock power first.

Of course Ill get pics up. Will kick off in June when I have some free time and some ramps to use.

Also big news.. Im getting bits together for a manual to DSG conversion. Yes yes it sounds mad but I cannot be bothered to get another car and transfer all my mods. And its a mechanical test for me so a bit of a personal challenge.

Eager for DSG perks like snappy changes, DSG pop/fart sound , less hassle in traffic and easy cruising when I want to, and dare I say slight improvement in MPG as its a 7-speed going in.

Wish me luck Ill keep you all updated  :happy2:

I looked into doing a DSG swap on my old 1.9 TDI
HUGE effort. I believe you need different cluster, ECU, can gateway, obviously gearbox etc.
Do-able but worked out for me to be about £3000. No thanks lol
Would just be cheaper to swap the mods over to a DSG car surely?
Or just buy an R dsg lol

Dont need to change clocks or canbus. Itll sense gearbox in the can wiring.
ECU im getting reprogrammed.
And got a brand new gearbox with mechatronics and clutches etc for a good price.
Got shifter mech, mounts, pedals, shifter
Locating last few bits like flywheel and rest is just new bolts and bits n pieces to get from dealers to make a loom too.

With the number of mods Iv done and hardwired in its lot of effort to swap it to a different car. So Iv created another challenge to keep me occupied :P !

Will update you on final budget when its all done. Hopefully not too painful!! :D

Omar, I know that our engines only had 7 speed DSG but I would definitely go for the 6 speed ones if I could. I guess all that matters is what the diameter of the gearbox. I know that twincharged have different gearboxes so it might be an easy swap (6 speed vs 7 speed).
I am not a big fan of DSG's because they will not hold the RPM's, unless they are have different software. And as far as I know there aren't any companies that can recode the 7 speed dry clutch DSG gearbox, but there are a lot of companies that can recode the 6 speed ones.
Torque won't be a problem for you engine with either gearboxes.

I am really curious to see if you manage to pull it of. Best of luck!

I'm not sure if it's different but the flywheel on the TFSI is a 6 bolt and the TSI is an 8 bolt I believe. Think all the TSI's had the 7 speed box, not sure if it's different.
Alex would know if anyone would...

Think trying to fit a 6 speed will be more hassle than 7speed. Not too bothered about holding high rpm as Im not thrashing it or racing much at all. And will need a custom file as the stock vag files for CAXA are with 7 speed not 6 as you know they only came with 7 speed. Im quite a chilled out driver with bits of spirited driving so I think stock setup hardware and software will do me. After all its a 1.4TFSI not a 2.0 fire spitter! :P

Really hope I pull it off too. keep your fingered crossed!!

Nope. Flywheels for my engine are 6 bolt.

And turbo only 1.4TSI 122 only came with 7 speed DSG. Only twincharged 160 tsi and 140 twincharge in mk5s came with a 6speed DSG.

There you go  :happy2:

Nice!

Good luck with the DSG Conversion. I agree with the others that 6 would be better but I guess if its a brand new 7 you should be fine. Looking forward to seeing the results!
