Phylis's turn for the red car curse :(
« on: November 15, 2009, 08:23:52 pm »
Returned this evening from work, went to go check on the car as you do, to find from my trip to tesco yesturday evening, some to$$er has damaged my front bumper by putting a 6 inch deep scratch right down to the black plastic of the bumper. Prat parked next to me couldnt reverse out of his parking bay without taking my bumper with him .

My question is...Apart from trying to fill it with touch up stick for the moment, is there anything i can use to try flaten back the area and blend in without going to the expense of a front end respray????

As its dark i havent taken a photo of the damage but below is a pic of the area thats damaged and its right on the edge of the arch. No other damage to the bumper fortunatly.

the Black illistration is almost as deep and wide as my Photoshop skillls, so its quite deep  :sad1:

Mate, I feel your pain.

Are the rims okay?

The GTI isn't just a machine. It's very much a living, breathing thing.

Yes Rims are totally fine, even after a month with wifee behind the wheel most of the time.

Gonna fill the black hole of kalcutta with more red touch up stick and laquer and make do with.

Any tips from our Resident Detailers on best thing to do to try cover up apart from a £500 respray??. Jay or Autoperfection, suggestions would be helpfull.

gutted for you  :sad1:

however I would hold fire on flatting the area as the edges give you a good key for you or a smart repair person to use when filling.
proper repair is best but you may want to try a smart repair yourself (or pay for one to be done)

they do , but get a personal recomendation if you can before letting them loose on your car , there are good , bad and ugly ones.
and ultimayely be prepared to get a respray done on the bumper as a fall back position (or not even attempt a repair).

you could even consider putting some graphics on the car in that place ?
