CAN Gateway?
« on: November 07, 2014, 09:46:08 pm »
Hi All,

Went to switch my CAN gateway around today, currently have no skin on my hand and lost 2 fingers. Okay, so not that bad but Jesus Christ what a pain in the arse it is!

Any recommendations on how to get to it without damaging myself or the car? I've read that you can go in from behind the wipers, seems a little excessive though?!

For anyone in Northampton willing to earn beer money, don't hesitate to get in touch!

I found going in behind the wipers the best way, takes a bit longer, but like you i really struggled going in from under the steering wheel

A guide and good luck  :happy2:

I found it really straight forward. Just removed the small storage unit to the side and below left of the steering wheel, Unclipped the relay housing, moved it to the right and unclipped the canbus, took me about 10 mins inc coding and still have all me skin and fingernails left

Thanks for the response guys, had another go today but to no avail, not too confident with the wiper removal either.

Any locals fancy lending a hand?

That looks like a PITA. Are they all in that location? Mine is on the side of the centre console.

If you've got a wiper removal tool http://www.ebay.co.uk/itm/6-28mm-Windscreen-Wiper-Blade-Arm-Battery-Terminal-Bearing-Remover-Puller-Kit-UK-/310736403597?pt=LH_DefaultDomain_3&hash=item4859553c8d
the rest is quite simple just give yourself the time, it's not hard - 30 minutes is ample time if you follow the link previously posted.
T30 is the only other tool which you may struggle for.
