you need to get a DGS service done , this is a seperate service which you need to ask for
they do not check any of this is a minor or major service.
it needs to be done every 40k miles
It's just had big service with box fluid
I could be mistaken but the words in bold indicate to me that a dsg service was done.
Indeed - the service schedule book indicates that fluid was changed and this was how the car was sold to me.
Since the original post I have been trying things out to see how the symptoms are manifested and I have found that the knocking / beating noise is only there when cold. I did a hour+ drive last weekend to get tyres then go to a dsg specialist in south wales and by the time I got there there were no symptoms at all! Typcial - that was the longest I had driven it.
I have the option of taking it in to the diagnostics place and leaving it there overnight to be cold so may do that over the Christmas break when the car is not needed.
It seems more like something is beating against the body of the car when D is selected rather than an actual issue with the box itself as it goes with speed and being fully hot.
Is this possibly the bushing from box to subframe?
