dsg a bit noisy in D when stationery

It sounds like a pipe beating or similar. Pop it in N and it all goes quiet.

It's just had big service with box fluid.

Is this normal on 47k?

I would have thought it would have been much quieter.

What if u leave the  car running in N for a few minutes and warm it up. Does it still make sound then once in D?

Seems to.

We don't use it much. Still trying to gauge what is happening when.

you need to get a DGS service done , this is a seperate service which you need to ask for

they do not check any of this is a minor or major service.

it needs to be done every 40k miles

Indeed - the service schedule book indicates that fluid was changed and this was how the car was sold to me.

Since the original post I have been trying things out to see how the symptoms are manifested and I have found that the knocking / beating noise is only there when cold. I did a hour+ drive last weekend to get tyres then go to a dsg specialist in south wales and by the time I got there there were no symptoms at all! Typcial - that was the longest I had driven it.

I have the option of taking it in to the diagnostics place and leaving it there overnight to be cold so may do that over the Christmas break when the car is not needed.

It seems more like something is beating against the body of the car when D is selected rather than an actual issue with the box itself as it goes with speed and being fully hot.

Is this possibly the bushing from box to subframe?

Any engine mounts? The clutch is biting in D and obviously not in N. try getting it on a ramp look underneath whist it is in D something might of just come loose

Sorry if you're already aware, but just in case...

There is significant clutch drag when stationary in Drive unless the foot brake is depressed.  With just the handbrake applied, you'll feel and hear the engine pulling the car.  If an owner is used to a conventional auto, this can be misinterpreted as a fault.

I hope this is all it is, otherwise it sounds expensive.  Please let us know how you get on.

Figured I'd post this in here instead of starting a new topic. When driving my DSG, I put it in N if stopped at traffic lights etc, is this the right thing to do, or is it better to leave it in D? What's best for longevity of the gearbox?

Why would you have the hand brake on in drive with no foot on the brake unless you were trying to stop roll back on a steep hill?

Not had the hand brake applied when in D - I have only usd foot brake. The noise continues as you release the foot brake and creep but goes as speed picks up.

I woulnd't know what to be looking for ifI got the front end up on ramps and I don't want the missus putting it into D when I'm under it!

I'll most likely get it into an indy garage later in the month (prob NG in Cardiff) and leave it for a few days.
