I've been having a couple of rough starts recently and it look like I have a fault somewhere in the glow plug system, when I turn on the ignition the glow plug light turns on for half a second then off again and although it starts first time it's a bit rough as it would if the glow plugs weren't on.
These were the alarms present when Eddie installed my RNS:
Alarms:
17057 - Cylinder 3 Glow Plug Circuit (Q12)
P0673 - 000 - Electrical Fault - Intermittent
16784 - EGR System
P0400 - 000 - Malfunction
After doing a bit of searching it looked to be the harness which is quite a common failure so I booked it in, the garage gave me a call yesterday saying the harness has tested fine but the fault is that there's no power getting to the plugs so the relay needs changing.
They then call me back this morning saying they've changed the relay/controller but that hasn't had any effect and they think it's either the ECU or the wiring from the ECU to the relay/controller and in order to test said wire they need to remove the ECU (Which I'm a little dubious about).
I did ask if they'd unplugged the coolant sensor, but they said they've tried to manually turn the plugs on from the ECU with no luck, I also asked if they'd checked the ignition sensor to the ECU but they said they'd checked that too...now being quite a cynical person I'm dubious at the fact they can test a wire from the ignition to the ECU but not from the relay/controller to the ECU without removing it, am I missing something?
I'm a little concerned they might be trying it on a little, has anyone any prior experience to the glow plug circuit and is what they're saying plausible, could there be an issue with the ECU without the alarms lighting up like an xmas tree?
