Swapping out canbus
« on: November 23, 2014, 06:27:15 pm »
so, thanks to some excellent service from EddieNL on here, I have a new canbus to fit when I do my head unit upgrade to rcd310. So how difficult is Fitting the new canbus? I see that http://www.my-gti.com/2296/can-bus-gateway-removing-installing-and-upgrading-volkswagen-golf says it looks ok, but then changing the dump valve looks easy but I was cursing and swearing at that fit well over an hour under the car!!

Anyone done this, is it a ten minute job or am I going to struggle with a lack of space and end up with lots of cuts on my hands haha

The first time I did it I took about an hour just to get the canbus out, the second time I found it easier to remove the front driver seat completely which made room for me to lie down and look up to the canbus. Whole process took around 45 minutes Including removing seat, release and change canbus , pop seat back in and programming it

By the way on both cars they were manuals. Dsg's are supposed to be easier.

Just fitted a new canbus from Eddie today.  Didn't find it the easiest mate, my hands are a bit cut!

Couldn't get it back the way it was originally, so just pushed the new can out the way, hope this is ok???

Took me about an hour, my car is an 06 GTi.

Follow Eddie's tutorial, it really helped.
