Clutch very occasionally sticking halfway down

On Monday morning I let my car defrost for 5-10 mins. I went to drive off and the clutch was stuck halfway down. I pulled it up with my foot and it was fine after that. The same thing happened today and it was fine again after I pulled it up. Any ideas?

Mine does that aswell. I had a new clutch fitted and it still does it. Audi said it was fine so god knows.

It is still fully in gear though so it doesn't affect it but its just annoying.

Good to see if anyone has a fix.

Sounds like your slave cylinder is on the way out. They're about £50. Needs bleeding afterwards.

Mine already had slave cylinder done when i done the clutch. The peddle feels fine most of the time and when it does stick a bit its far enough up that gear is fully engaged. Its a weird one it feels more like somthing to do with the peddle.

Thanks for the info, I suspected it might be the slave cylinder. I have heard it's a big job on a MK5 Golf? I think I will try and get the clutch bled first as my first port of call and pray it cures it! I can live with it if it only does it every now and then but if it happens more frequently it's gonna have to be fixed!

Never done one on a 6 speed but a 5 speed is a piece of piss. Airbox off replace the cylinder from top of gearbox and rebleed.

Slave is in the gearbox casing on a 6 speed. May as well replace the clutch while your at it

That sucks! Would the DMF be worth replacing too then? So far so good today, I wonder what makes it an intermittant fault??

item 30 - (pipe and diaphragm) has been known to cause a similar issue where you need to pull the clutch pedal back up (part number pending your engine type)!

Thanks mate, I will bear this in mind if the bleed doesn't fix it. This is the 2nd day with no problems, very odd...

Mines doing this a lot lately but only when it's cold. Once it warms up its fine.  my master cylinder was replaced a couple of years ago so I don't think it's that I'm thinking it's the slave cylinder.

I think that would affect the brakes though would it not?

Am going to price that pipe (above) see how that goes.

Mine hadn't done it for a couple of weeks then it done it twice today. It isn't that big a deal i don't think, aslong it doesn't damage anything else.

I was sat in the car earlier and I managed to get the clutch to stick again. This time the engine wasn't running and as I pumping the clutch it started to stick and each successive pump it stuck further down. I then turned the engine on to see if it would release the clutch but it stayed down and when I tried to select a gear I
wouldn't budge. Any ideas? If I pulled it up again it sprang back to normal.

Give it a bleed first. As it used brake fluid, ideally it should be changed every couple of years. Hardly anyone does change it though.
