M.O.T fail :(

Had my mot yesterday..it failed on two things..

Offside front constant velocity joint gator to be precise ha
can somebody advise me where they get there's from,there's a garage near me that will probably do them but dont think they are genuine..
what are the exact spline tool you need? my dad wants to buy a set because he always has to borrow them.

the only other thing is: supplementary restraint system warning lamp indicates fault.(5.4.2)
this is my passenger airbag and im sure its the wires underneath the seat,but not had a look a look ,anyone had this before? i suppose i could bypass it like my dad did with his BMW but curious

Hi,  if indicating a fault on side airbag it's usually the seat wiring plug from moving backwards and forwards. The fix for this is to chop the yellow plug out under the seat and join wires back using 3 heat shrink connectors (make sure to disconnect battery when working on airbag system )
Also it could be the airbag wiring where the seats backrest and base meet (from flexing) this is unfortunately a new airbag. Hope this helps.

With regards to the airbag, it might be worth a scan with VCDS to gain more info.

My mums derv had the airbag light pop up last week. I scanned it Tuesday and I got the error code 01217. As Monkey touched on, there's a bit of chopping and soldering to do.

With regarding the airbag, DO NOT CHOP the yellow quick connector off as when soldering if you change the resistance in the wire there's a possibility the airbag will ignite! If it is indeed the plug then remove clean pins tighten and reconnect, however taking a pot luck guess is always a punt, scan it first and check it out. I do these everyday at work! Hope this helps.

In regards to chopping the plug out this is the measure that Volkswagen recommend to rectify this fault (if it is a side air bag fault with no damage to the airbag wiring between the base and back rest) Use heat shrink connectors though not solder. Cheers

You do realise that VW's own documentation states to do that? Lol

Scan the car with VCDS and post up the faults before you go cutting anything.

Yes guys I do I work for them lol, just not advisable for any old Harry carry really to do it, the plugs and connectors work far better by tightening the pins and cleaning, am stating as we see plenty of these in the dealership with speculating fault codes because of halfords irons and solder not being upto the job. Not stating the person in hand can't do it was simply warning if your not confident.also seen a few pretensioners actually gone off with people still driving around with the light on.

tbh i do not use the passenger seat much at all but i think it might be  break in the cables tbh..

The 6 bolts? M10 Triple Square.

I had both of these on mine and fixed both.

Cv isn't a huge job. Think I have a how to in my build thread. If you don't want to diy it's a very cheap fix.

The airbag fault happened after I got those wires under the seat whilst hoovering.

I've removed the fault from the dash with vcds but the error persists on the ecu and will do so unless the entire loom is to be replaced.

Will it pass an mot with the light off the dash?

and yeh ive done the cv now done one before with my dad :) thanks anyway.

and ive used that other DIY and chopped the plug and connected them back,cleared the fault with my cheap vag-com and all okay so far
