Where Did You Get Your Aircon Re-Gassed?
« on: November 24, 2014, 07:44:26 pm »
Just as the title says, where did you get your aircon re-gassed?  Im pretty sure Kwik Fit etc do this but not sure about using them!  How much does it cost?

Think i will get this done at the weekend, cheers.   :drinking:

There are no real vouchers at this time of year... however:

I used a local specialist which are highly rated. The guy who does the work let me come out and watch what he does, showed me how he doesn't just fill it but checks the pressure, all the components properly and everything, very thorough. However, they are based in Burnham-on-Crouch in Essex which is in the middle of nowhere. Literally. But if you're in Essex and don't mind a trip, these guys are top.

My local indy does mine for about £50. Gets an antibacterial treatment with it as well.

I had my Golf done at the indy garage who does the work on my car, I got my wifes car done at a local auto electrician who did it, £40-50 with a proper vacuum, refill and anti-bacterial.

It is always worth looking at the Yellow Pages for mobile and/or local places that specialise in refrigerant systems and they are usually cheaper.
Used to have Edition 30 - number 009 and a GT TDI 140.
Now have an S4 B8 Avant (stage 2)

Got the car booked in tomorrow at a VW specialist about 20 minutes away from me, just didn't fancy using Kwik Fit!

Guy is charging £48 and says it will take 2 hours.  Must be a pretty comprehensive job he's doing?

A full vacuum of the old refrigerant takes a long, long time, so that seems right.

Cheers for the info skard.  Will update the thread once it's done to see if I notice any difference.

Got mine done by a local air on specialist who can come to you. Although he was local so I went to him instead.

The GTI isn't just a machine. It's very much a living, breathing thing.

Groupon occasionally has deals on. I got my Land Rover done for £20 and that included a 'service' which I think is a check of the system. Although I tend not to use it much as it saps what little power there is!

For the Golf I'd leave it to a specialist with a good reputation or get it done at the main dealer with a service being as they're a bit more modern and valuable. Somewhere like groupon could come up trumps though!

So i got the air con serviced/re-gassed yesterday for £48.

The VW specialist working on it said that all is fine and that the pressure had been built up a bit.  He said that the compressor is working fine (which is a weight off my mind) and that after a VCDS scan the car showed no faults  :happy2:.  He showed me the scan log and all looks good.
