How long to reach 90 degrees?
« on: November 27, 2014, 12:14:13 pm »
I recently had my main thermostat replace due to my temp not reaching 90degrees on motorway driving.

Now my car reaches 90 but only after a good 20mins driving id say.

It is about 1degree Celsius outside so I'm sure this is a factor but how long does it typically take you guys to reach 90 in either time or distance at this outside temperature?

Noticed mine takes a while to reach 90c, maybe 15-20mins driving. Thank God for heated seats!

Something i have found over the last few days is if the conditions allow (your windows dont require de-misting) push the off button on your heater controls or turn the fan speed completely down and it automatically turns off. With them completely off and the car heats up much faster then when at 90 degrees turn your heaters on full chat and the car maintains 90 degrees and you have nice warm heating quicker (you just have to be really cold for a bit) luckily i have heated seats so i dont get too cold  :P

I did a test over the last few days when i left work driving the exact same route as similarly as i can yes the outside temp was a bit different by a few degs but nothing massive.
When i drove with the fans completely off when the car got to 90 degrees i remembered the point (pretty much at the entrance to the local plantation)
When i drove home the following day i left my heaters on as normal and by the same point the car was just nearing 70 degrees.

I wouldnt have got caught in any traffic if i did it would only have been for 10 seconds waiting to get onto a roundabout as its quite a quiet route.

if i paid more attention i could have made a note of temperatures and miles and time but i didnt really think about it.

If others can also do the same thing and confirm its quicker then that would be cool.

I had a new stat fitted yesterday after my gti only hit 90 when in traffic.  Noticed this morning that it took a good 10 mins to reach 90 on way to work.  Will keep an eye on it ...

Mines had the main thermostat and in line one done and it takes 5mins at the most to get to 90 even with heaters on. Probably will take abit longer once the very cold weather comes.
