Long story short. My 5D MK2 is STILL with Canon being serviced after they assured me it would be dispatched Thursday and ready for collection Friday. It transpires its not going to be ready now until Wednesday - which is when i go on holiday...............

I now find myself in the position where i need a camera, should i take this opportunity to move to a different format?

One of my issues with the setup i have is the weight as my camera bag, when loaded is circa 7kgs, if it were lighter i would consider using it more but lugging around a heavy camera bag especailly in hot weather meaning i tend to leave it behind. In fact i've not used it that much this year because of the very reason. With that said i REALLY like full frame quality and i know that if i move to something like a Compact system Camera like the the Fujifilm X-E2 i am going to experience some degragation in image quality.

I am not brand loyal but image quality is important to me. I have a budget of £1k and have shortlisted my options to.

Fujifilm X-E2 Body + 18-55mm OIS lens - http://www.jessops.com/online.store/categories/products/fujifilm/x-e2-compact-system-camera-in-black-18-55mm-lens-89691/show.html?cm_mmc=td-_-affiliate_name-_-advert_id-_-236543
Fujifilm XC 50-230mm lens - http://www.jessops.com/online.store/categories/products/fujifilm/xc-50-230mm-black-lens-89733/show.html

This combo will put me over budget but with £200 cutback not by much

Panasonic Lumix DMC-G7 + 14-42mm lens http://www.jessops.com/online.store/categories/Compact%20System%20Cameras/products/Panasonic/Lumix%20DMC-GX7%20Camera%20in%20Silver%20%2014-42mm%20Lens%20%20Spare%20Battery%20-92092/Show.html
Panasonic 14-140mm lens http://www.jessops.com/online.store/categories/products/panasonic/14-140mm-f-3-5-5-6-lens-h-fs14140e-89088/show.html

Kind of on budget but i can make it work.

Any thoughts gents?

The GX7 gets my vote
But keep in mind it's nearly at the end of its lifecycle and there will be a new one in the new year!

Also looking at the Canon G16 but having had the G10 in the past and didn't really get on with it i am a little hesitant.

I could run the risk of buying one while on holiday it would actually work out more expensive and too much hassle  :chicken:

got a G16 to go with the EOS and really like it as so easy to use especially exposure compensation

Just been comparing some sample shots on Flickr and the G16 does look pretty good i'm a little concerned about the noise especially at 400+ ISO

I am leaning towards the X-E2, just considering lens options :)

I can see why the Fuji would appeal but the Gx7's auto focus is 25% quicker!

Fuji X100 (or X100S/T) gets my vote.

It can keep pace with my 5D3 a lot of the time regarding image quality. Small, light, unobtrusive, fixed lens, 35mm f/2. Works great. APS-C instead of full frame but has that incredible Fuji look.

I've got a G16 as a backup for my 1Dm3 - it doesn't focus as quickly but it's still a bloody good camera (cheap enough too as there's £40 cashback from Canon at the moment).

Went for the G16 in the end as I've decided to keep the 5D MK2.

Not had a chance to take any photos yet as I bought it a couple of hours before leaving for the airport and we are still in transit.
