How can you test an intercooler properly though
You can test inlet vs outlet temps but what about pressure loss or airflow restrictions / flow rate

Easy... get someone to map it.... If it makes good figures then its a good IC, if not and it gets held back that its not.

Too many variables tto dictate whether thats any good.

I did very good power with my stock old intercooler and stock pipework on my old 1.9 tdi...

Needs to be a scientific test...lab set up tbh. Or something like mighty car mods. Set airflow and distance and heat.

Well we know the mods and what it should make. If it flows well at stage 2+ And keeps temps in check then that will be enough info for me and 90% of TFSI owners.

I disagree.

The whole point of doing "tests" is that you can assess and then provide information based on evidence rather than gesticulation and guesswork. My friends car with stock intercooler and a slipping clutch made 335bhp at rtech as stage 2 cupra r

If someone else does 331 with same car and spec but with an s3 intercooler or a peron or a ths or whatever then thats to say a stock cooler is better?

Only way to test is to do it properly.

Rich's pointless test  :signLOL:

I got my car back from Darkside, as I was away on holiday all week I can't be bothered to do a big update but the long and short of it - my car did 194.2 on darksides dyno when it had DPF delete and remap.
after fitting the Darkside Intercooler before they fitted the 2260 they did another run and it did EXACTLY the same power - however it held the power longer at the top end, from 3800-5k it was about 5-6bhp up on the previous .

With the DsD cooler I'm now finding that my cruising intake temps are as low as 0.5 degrees BELOW ambient (I monitor on my polar) and recovery rates are greatly improved on the stock cooler..drops from 22-23 to 6 or 7 very quickly. Heatsoak also seems much much less of an issue, I have seen intake temps up to 45 degrees with my old cooler after parking up for a few minutes -  the highest I've seen since the cooler went on in similar ambient conditions and pre-shutdown conditions is 22...

I had planned to do inlet temp logging before/after intercooler but I just never had the time and couldn't be bothered to be honest  :signLOL:
When I do my write up I will post up pictures of the specific dyno graph relating to before/after intercooler.
