Uneven idling problem
« on: November 30, 2014, 01:57:13 pm »
Hi guys, I have a problem when my car is on tick over. It used to run smooth at just under 1000 rpm quite happy but now it blips up and down. Only goes up to about 1500 rpm and then comes back down. But it does this constantly like every 2 seconds. I have had a few suggestions about what it could be but they all seem a bit "out there." Anyone had the same problem and know of a cure? Thanks.

Had the exact same problem start on mine yesterday tried taking oil cap off with engine running and could not pull it off so just had a look at the pcv valve and the diaphragm in side was split will be replacing it tomorrow so will let u know if this sorts my idle issue.

Think you mean you took the DV off, that's the part with the failing diaphragm

Ahh that's inside the circular cap on the top?

Not many people take them apart to check for damage, you can tell if they're bust by blowing up the pipe.

If your after a replacement, I have one for sale  :happy2:

Thing was I had the systems I've read about but I couldnt blow through it so thought I'd have alook inside, thanks for the offer but need it soon as hopefully tps got 1 in stock. Bit peed off cos after reading it up on here I tried the dip stick test just last week and it seemed the pcv was fine then.

So just takes the pcv valve apart and seal is fine. I now have engine light on. Any other ideas.

Get it scanned for fault codes. EML means you have a code which will lead you straight to the problem

Just a quick update. Had a scan and came up with air flow faults of various descriptions, anyway, cleared them off and it's running fine now. Not sure what it was but been on a couple of short trips and a long drive tonight and all seems well. Fingers crossed. Thanks for the advise.
