DAB Headunit
« on: December 07, 2014, 10:44:32 am »
Morning all.

Im looking for opinions on the best way to go about upgrading my HU. I currently have two routes Im considering, and would appreciate opinions, both positive and negative, on both please. I want to be able to connect my iPod, iPhone (via Bluetooth) have Sat Nav and DAB radio ahead of the proposed analogue switch over by the end of 2015.

OPTION 1: RNS 510 DAB
Option 1 is the OEM route, RNS 510 DAB. I know this will likely be much more expensive, so Im looking for help to justify the extra expense.
My sums are as follows:
RNS 510 DAB @ £850
CAN Gateway @ £75
Bluetooth Module @ £120
MDI Kit @ £100
All in this looks to cost around £1100

OPTION 2: KENWOOD DNX521DAB
Not strictly OEM, but was offered by VW as an option.
DNX 521 DAB @ £650
iPod lead @ £30
So this would come in at under £700 and as far as I can tell would provide the same functionality as the RNS unit apart from providing directions on the Highline display (which I dont have currently).

Anyone who has either of these units, please provide your opinions as to why one unit is better than the other, or why I should consider one setup over the other. I would also be interested in hearing opinions of the DNX 525 over the 521, is it worth the extra money? What does the 525 do that the 521 doesnt?

Looking forward to hearing your opinions.

Thanks,

Ben
