Not boosting when cold GTI
« on: December 06, 2014, 11:14:26 am »
Got an 05 Gti - AXX
since the winter has hit my car will not boost at all till the car has been running for a long time, once the car has heated up it runs as normal. Another thing I noticed it took me around 30 miles driving to get it to 90c the temp gauge would go up and down while running which I had never seen before was around 0c outside temp.

Does the sensor only reach 90 in traffic?

I had my main thermostat replaced to fix this heating issue but during the icy days it's taking me at least 15mins motorway driving to warm up to speed.

The ecu prevents the car unleashing it's full performance until it's up to temp to prevent damage to the engine whilst cold!

The car struggles to reach 90, I drove it really hard for about 15 miles and it went up and down and eventually reached 90, can Rev it on the spot and it barely budges.

Does it? I never knew that but then I would never thrash it when it's cold anyway!

It does! These computers are smarter than us. It's a good idea that vw had and it stops serious damage. Imagine your car was stolen and raced on cold. At least the damage would be minimised.

Regarding your temp not getting up Id consider strongly getting your thermostats sorted.

I had vw look at mine and they said they were working fine but that's only because when I arrived at the shop my engine was warm and I was sitting in traffic so it was already at 90
