Spring advice/help
« on: December 06, 2014, 01:25:43 pm »
One of the springs snapped on the back of my GTI last week so ordered a set of used rears off a breakers on ebay as i will be lowering it next year so didnt want to spend a fortune....got the spring out today and the snapped bit, all going well until trying to get the other spring it. It is about an inch longer so i'm thinking there not GTI springs?

http://i902.photobucket.com/albums/ac227/jaye2992/2014-12-06114111_zps30396681.jpg

Anyway, does anybody run the eibach sportline springs on their GTI with standard shocks? Thinking of doing this and then upgrading the shocks once I need to....pics would be nice on how they sit too on the 18" alloys....are the sportlines the lower of the two sets eibach do? Thanks

I run the Eibach Sportline springs on standard shocks - the ride is brilliant, same as standard really just lower!
Here is how it sits on 18inch Monzas

Very nice, liking the idea of a nice 30mm ~ drop! Did you replace the front top mounts? Guessing TPS will supply them

Always a good idea to replace the top mounts. Get some Audi RS3 ones, little bit more expensive but stiffer and stabilise the suspension strut a bit more.

Moving over to Flickr, sorry for the broken picture links!

Yea always have on previous cars when fitting coilovers, going springs on this though as I dont want to go too low! Do you have any part numbers for the front rs3 mounts.... :D

My first stance mod was sportlines. I ran the OE dampers with them, but the dampers only lasted 25k miles after the install(installed at 25k miles and replaced at 50k miles)...when two of four began leaking. If having a tech install the springs, ...I would suggest replacing the front dampers and front strut bearings along with the front spring install since you are already there with all of it tore apart. The rear dampers are easy enough to install yourself.

This was mine with sportlines:

This is mine now:

Yea would do top mounts while there off but shocks will be staying for a while as i will upgrade them in the future when needed. Probably be doing it myself then just paying for the wheel alignment  :happy2:

What you running of yours now? Sits very well!

I was lucky to find the rear coilover springs and adjusters by themselves from a well known tuner here, they had used them briefly as a trial, for $100usd. Then I cut only about 1/2 coil off the bottom of the front H&R SS springs and repositioned where the end of the spring coil sits on the lower strut perch.

Sounds good, means no seized coilovers too then lol. How do you find the bilstein shocks for road use? Will be getting them on mine once needed.

Hi, hopefully someone can help. I'm buying the eibach springs from Ebay and the seller wants me to confirm the axle loads of my mk5 golf gti dsg so he can send me the correct springs.

Grateful if someone can provide this info and confirm if the following springs will fit:

http://www.ebay.co.uk/itm/310412321591?_trksid=p2060778.m1438.l2649&ssPageName=STRK%3AMEBIDX%3AIT

He's also got other springs listed:

http://www.ebay.co.uk/itm/390681895471?_trksid=p2060778.m1438.l2649&ssPageName=STRK%3AMEBIDX%3AIT

Therefore unsure which set is suitalble as the seller can't advse. He said to give him the axel loads info and he'll confirm.

Thanks in advance.

Thanks. I searched on the forum to find out the axle load and in i Think thar a dsg ed30 mk5 is1050 kg.

I replied to the seller and he advised that i should choose "EIBACH Sportline for your GTI (lowering front 20-25mm and back 20mm) .... because GTI is original lowered...... if you choose EIBACH ProKit you get no lowering !"

Therefore he advised these:

http://www.ebay.co.uk/itm/390681914811?ru=http%3A%2F%2Fwww.ebay.co.uk%2Fsch%2Fi.html%3F_from%3DR40%26_sacat%3D0%26_nkw%3D390681914811%26_rdc%3D1

Very confused as I've read many members have fitted eibach pro kits but now being told their unsuitable and buy sportlines! :sad1:

Someone put me out of this misery and please help!!
