Improvements to my GTi...
« on: December 08, 2014, 12:32:10 pm »
Hey everyone..

Ive got the day off work today and im just itching to spend on the car! Terrible i know.. Since I brought the car, there were a few bits that ive always wanted to just get done and never got round to it.. So any views/ suggestions would be highly appreciated as Im new to the Mk5 game.. (loving the gti btw).

So here are a list of parts im looking to get, but I just dont know what exact ones work best.

1). New Spark Plugs (Will be running stage 1.5 soon, so best ones there plz).

2). The original air intake plastic part has snapped, need to get it replaced. (the part that fixes onto the part near the bonnet catch). Maybe if someone has a diagram with parts and part numbers so I can pick out exactly the correct part?

3). Panel Filter ready for map. (Ive heard the pipercross panel is best.. Is this correct).

4). Which DV to get ready for map.. Is it the Rev G straight from VW?

5). I have also been looking for a smooth front grill but WITH the vw badge. Do they do these? On ebay im seeing smooth grills with no badge and a recess fill.. But im looking to stay more OEM.. So just the number plate wholes smoothed and the vw badge still in place. Are there grommits to fill my current grill? Or do they sell them already smoothed etc?

Thats it for now guys and girls.. I really appreciate all the help and guidance you can all give me. You all know about your stuff, so I thought it only right to come here first!

Look forward to reading!

Mario.

Have a read of my guide, part number for air intake cover is in there
http://www.mk5golfgti.co.uk/forum/index.php/topic,89715.msg907250.html#msg907250

I fit a rev G dv but it gave a hissing noise a week after installation due to what I believe to be the diaphragm ripping again. Would personally go for a rev D which is a piston instead of a diaphragm.

Although if you're getting a map do you not need a better DV than stock? Maybe someone can shed light on this!

Buy an Evoms intake rather than a panel filter. Better gainz m9.

1.) Do a search, or use the Mods section (along the top of the forum) as there's loads of advice out there. :happy2:

2.) & 3.) A Pipercross panel filter and new intake sections are good, but if you have the cash, an EVOMS or Revo intake would be good, you loose a little low end torque but gain it in the upper end of the power. It's personal preference, I run an APR carbon scoop (purely for show) and a K&N panel filter to keep my K03 punchy and low down power.

4.) Rev. G is a VW part, perfectly fine for up to stage 2 really. Available from Awesome GTI - http://www.awesomegti.com/car/vw/golfmk5/oem-2-0t-diaphragm-diverter-valve-06f-145-710g

5.) I run a smooth, de-badged grill which is OK, but I'm hoping to swap to something like this - http://www.ebay.co.uk/itm/261679567413?_trksid=p2060778.m1438.l2649&ssPageName=STRK%3AMEBIDX%3AIT . I'll need to invest in a new front badge, but if you have a standard grill you can use the one from your current one. I think those numberplate hole in the picture can be covered from behing with black gaffer tape or something, to seal it up. They'll be hidden by a number plate anyway (I'll be using the magnetic modification again).

Hope this helps. :happy2:

Moving over to Flickr, sorry for the broken picture links!
