Wet Floor Driver Side
« on: October 17, 2014, 11:42:26 am »
I had this problem before on my last car, turned out the drainage channels on my car were blocked with leaves etc. so the water started dropping down inside the engine and onto the floor.

That's no the problem here as I cleaned them out when I was checking suspension.

It's actually on the floor below my carpet so it must be coming from underneath.

No loss of coolant so it's not that and it's definitely water.

We're having a very wet spell at the moment in Ireland (what are the chances) so do you think it's just rain water kicked up from the ground to the underside?

Inner door seals possibly?

It's coming up from below the car mat into the actual floor lining though

Have you looked at the floor from under the car to check it's not damaged?

Moving over to Flickr, sorry for the broken picture links!

Had this exact problem on mine, wet front and rear driver side foot wells. Substantially wet too... Turned out the drainage channels in the scuttle panel had got blocked up with mud and other crap so fished as much of it out as I could and then used a pressure washer to clean it all out.

I had this problem on an mg zr a few year ago, it was the pipe that ran to the rear window washer.

Can you elaborate on this please? Possibly a photo?

I wish I could.  It's the reason my wife's old Passat turned into a bathtub but our local indy specialist did all the work.  There was a clue before, though - the bonnet release became very stiff due to the cable fraying.

I got inside the car today while it was hosed down. No real sign of water ingress at all.

Floor is soaked from yesterday though.

I think it's coming from the under side.

Does anyone know where the drain plugs or vents are on the driver side footwell?

An update on this for anyone needing in the future:

The leak was caused by my sunroof drains which I had originally checked and eliminated.
I cleared the gunk from these drains so ruled out a blockage and thought they were fine.
It turned out that the sunroof drain tube was disconnected inside the pillar and was leaking down in behind the fuse box area.

It's nice to see someone add that, I often do it when I solve a problem just because I've gone through so many historic threads with similar problems to mine and you never actually find out how the problem was solved in the end!
