MK5 GTI Sixth Gear
« on: December 10, 2014, 11:01:13 pm »
Hi,

Guys I have ran my GTI thats on a stage 1 map with 310 torque figures, on the motorway in 6th gear when zoning at 70 in 2x revs when you floor it the car accelerates and bounces on the 3x revs like a DSG and then shoots up the revs. I haven't been able to test it on dry conditions yet fully but what could this potentially be ? With stage 1 power will I be able to gap a stock GTI I fully thrash the car no half hearted folks so don't start undermining the drivers.

Thanks

Sounds like your clutch is going.

Options are......an uprated clutch or remove map and hope for the best.

Look at the Organic Helix Clutch with a new OEM DMF if you decide you really want to keep those extra ponnies.

Drive slower, or drive another car. Driving slower will help with fuel economy and your financial issues

As above sounds like a clutch, which unfortunately is probably more than £450. A Helix Organic clutch and new DMF fitted is more like £1100, a new OEM one might be good enough but probably won't last that long if you drive it hard like you say.

I guess for a while I will have to keep it as it is then go for a new clutch and have the problem sorted!

Until you get a new clutch, avoid using half-to-full throttle (to overtake for example) when in 5th and 6th gear - jump down to 4th  :happy2:
