Stolen car key : Changing locks

So sitting doing uni work tonight and hear my door open (I usually lock it but for some reason I didnt).

Run out of the room and see a hand slamming the door. Chased 3 guys down my street, but slipped near the bottom and they got away :( They got my car keys, and house keys.

Whats the process with VW about getting the locks changed in the car? Is it the whole locks need changed, or is it the immobiliser reprogrammed.

Also how much is it likely to be?

sorry to hear that bud, i've no idea what it's going to cost you, my idea would be to buy the lock set from vw and ask on here if someone could fit them, in the mean time if your not using the car i'd make sure all your belongings are removed from it, and somehow immobilise the car yourself, ie remove fuel pump relay or alike. a good guy to ask is (eddie nl)

Check with your insurer, some cover lost/stolen keys. May require you to report it to the Police though.

If you get them changed by VW, you'll need logbook, proof of ID and proof of address at a guess. You will need new lock and ignition barrells along with new key(s)

just rang vw for you,

key set is £222.12+vat
but then you need the remote part of the key too, these are £59.65 each

I always keep our front door locked and the missus moans and sayswhy am i so on top about it!

To be honest mate if its a bill of £600-£700 id seriously consider selling the bloody car
Hope you sort it without too much hastle!
Other option would be to delet this thread and see if car gets taken then just report it and claim

We've just fitted a lock set to a cords. Total cost 430 and the key set was same price.

Is key cover part of your normal claim or is it separate like windscreen cover? I've never claimed under key cover before

I'd have a word with some independant autolocksmiths rather than use VW, keep an eye our for locksets on ebay etc

What year car?

With a combination of VCDS and Commander (many have both) you can unsync your remote fob from the CCM memory (this deactivates the alarm) and also unregister transponders so a working key stops firing the engine up.
Try taking your cluster out at night and park your drivers door close to a wall maybe.

The keyblade itself won't start the car, it is the chip inside that does. The blade just allows more civilised access compared to smashing a window.

Well Friday was a hectic day, but pretty much everything sorted now.

All the house locks changed, which wasnt as big as a hassle as id originally though, and got into VW in the afternoon to get the key recoded. Only cost 33 quid which was a pleasent suprise. So they key will still work but the engine wont start and alarm will go of.

New locks ordered and should be fitted on Monday, and cctv fitted in the house with new sensor lights etc.

Luckily my Key insurance is separate and wont effect my no claims, so going through them.

Thanks for all the help, doesn't appear the scumbags have came back anyhow, so thinking they've probably ditched the keys.
