Don't flame me!!
« on: December 16, 2014, 12:13:43 pm »
Hi,

Simon - Currently live in Peterborough. Just bought a low mileage GT170. Don't shoot me down for it not being a pure GTI, it's my 3rd golf, and the first which isn't a GTI. My first was a mk1 GTI and the 2nd a mk4 GTI

Other interesting cars I've had are Skyline R32, CL600, X3 3.0 petrol, Mini cooper 'S' , Audi A4 v6 Quattro  (to name a few)

I've joined here for advice (not about getting a new car  :rolleye:  ) and as I will want to make some mods here and there (as I can't leave anything alone)

Now have my third Golf
1st  in 1994 - 1983 GTI Mark 1
2nd in 2002  - 2002 GTI 2.0 Mark 4
3rd in 2014   - 2007 GT TSI 170

Welcome to the forum! I've been here a few months and it's a great community. I don't have a GTI either but aside the engine our mk5 are all very similar and have plenty of mods possible.

Thanks for the welcomes... :drinking:

welcome

what mods were you thinking of?

I'm looking for at least a Cruise control retro fit and a blue tooth sat nav install. Does anyone recommend any one? The satnav has to be a 2nd hand unit as I'm tight and I'm not spending £££'s on a 7 year old car  :indifferent:
for anything else I'm open. I havn't read much yet about what can be done to it but I read a tuning site stating they can remap to 196bhp  but not sure I want to kill my clutch

I'd also go for a GTI grill, or R32 bumpers if they were the right price, and a leather interior.

The car has 73k has full service history and I got it at 'sale of the century' for £3k'  :jumpmove: the previous owner paid £5900 in August!!! and it came with a private plate also.

Cheers

The clutch can take the extra HP if it's in good shape and if the tune is properly done by someone who knows how to do it. Get good credentials before choosing a tuner.

Look into the Modifications Catalogue, you'll find plenty. Good quality items aren't often cheap, though.

Thanks - yes a good tuner is important - I don't know much about VW remaps but I'm familiar with remaps & gas chronology on other vehicles and I'd prefer a careful remap on a rolling road across closer increments than just a quick fuel increase with a laptop.

Re satnav, I just don't want to spend £4,5,600 + on a new unit - don't see the point (might prefer to spend it on a remap)

Thanks

Lol you're lucky!!!!!!!

You'll be fine with a Stage 1 map / dpf removal on stock clutch. Mine is 120k on stock clutch and DMF and no slip whatsoever.
Needs upgrading though,

Hi there,

I'm just up the road near Spalding so it's good to hear of someone else in the group who's in this area. I have a 2008 GTI which I'd like to remap next year, jabbasport in Crowland were recommended to me by friend and mechanic, so have a look at them if you go ahead with yours.

Cheers, Tom.
