EDI Compliance (Medium Business)
« on: December 17, 2014, 12:44:34 pm »
Guys,

We've a couple of vendors in the US that have basically said "become EDI compliant, or we'll fine you for each transaction", EDI being Electronic Data Interchange.

We've looked at a few options with US and UK based suppliers for EDI, but a lot of it seems smoke and mirrors. We now know that we need a GLN transport number to prove that we can receive EDI data and documents, but what actually makes us EDI approved or compliant?

Can anyone further advance on the laymans terms please?

We've established it's cheaper to pay for EDI software than it is to keep crediting for the transaction fines, but we're not even sure if as a business we're not already EDI compliant because we don't totally understand what defines that we are?

Appreciate any real world explanations.

Thanks.
