Does iron X remove wax protection from wheels?
« on: December 17, 2014, 01:10:58 pm »
As title, do I have to re-apply protective wax every time after using iron X or similar?
or is there a wheel sealant that it won't take off?

Yes. Anything stronger than mild soap/shampoo will strip wax. How often are you using iron X?

well not that often, as I guessed it might take all protection off, and I didn't want to spend ages waxing them again, I find it sooooo boring a task.
is every 3months about right?

It's up to you how frequently you do your wheels. At change over times, when the winter alloys go on/off, the wheels get a thorough cleaning. Otherwise a few times a year they get washed/tardis/ironx/LSP. Shouldn't need to touch them during regular washes.

Sealant or wax won't stop brake dust but does make it easier to clean the wheels on your weekly wash.

Well, it depends on what sort of coating you have.
If it's just an organic wax then while still being PH neutral the Iron X can possibly degrade the wax. It won't "remove" it though.

If you have something like cquartz/dlux/qtechniq then it will be more resistant but with these coatings you generally only need a good scrub with a mitt or some brushes and regular shampoo.

If you have waxed your wheels then a weak mix of ph neutral wheel cleaner is usually enough especially if you at least jet your wheels off once a week.

i try and wash my car every week at least and my wheels were all FK1000p'd and they stopped beading after about a month. I hydro 2 them when I can get a chance.
