Is my clutch on the way out?
« on: December 18, 2014, 02:24:07 pm »
I fear my clutch or connected part is on the way out.

On hill starts there's a bit of a squeal and the same when I have the car in too high a gear and try pull away.

It sounds like a bearing squeal.

The clutch is holding throughout all gears and revs and never misses a beat if I put the foot down.

Clutch or clutch bearing?

Anyone experience this and have a rough cost for a new one?

Stock gti and no intention to go uprated from oem!

Thanks

Could be the slave cylinder?

If its your clutch you should be able to smell it.

Lol you got screwed over I'm afraid

An uprated Helix clutch with new DMF is £750-odd and installation is about 4 hours labour. I'm expecting to pay around £950 fitted for my Paddle clutch and my mate is having the Helix clutch i mentioned with new flywheel for £950-ish at @ AKS Tuning

OP: Doesn't sound like your clutch. Probably a slipping belt (auxiliary) causing the noise.....

 :ashamed:

As Jay said. Massively overpaid there. Just shows how much of a rip off VW are for maintenance

Slipping belt? Any thoughts where to start. I've diy's pretty much everything to date so I'll have a go myself before the garage get at it. Just need to know where to start! Thank you!

Happens on cold and hot. Only when doing a hill start or of if I've engaged too high a gear i.e. when the clutch is under more pressure

Happens when the engine is under load (IE pulling away).
Won't be the clutch it will be timing or auxiallary belt probably a tensioner.
