Not used CDs in a long time but I always used Verbatims and never had one problem with them :).

I've had no luck in playing burned cd's in mine.
Do the files have to be a particular format?

If you don't see a Mp3 tag above the CD slot it means your RCD-300 can only play regular music CD.
My Golf came with a RCD-500 MP3 that could read .mp3 files (and .wma files, I think).
Some generic brands aren't good enough for your HU to read, so you either try a better brand or use a CD cleaner CD.

Need to burn as an audio CD and close the session. I've always used Verbatim discs too.

TDK for the best sound. Beats just about anything in my high end 'hi fi'. NAIM, Spendor, Chord......
Sounds good in the car too. Depends on your own expectations/type of music/ear/burning engine etc of course.

Just a note i had problems with basic CDR not working with data burned MP3 cds. So i used IMG Burn and used option write files/folders to disc and no problem with any brand CDR or CDRW.
So have a bunch of tunes in folders on my RCD300 no problems. When using itunes or windows it never worked. IMGBurn is free download.
