Leaky door seals
« on: November 16, 2009, 07:06:11 pm »
Looks like, at the point of sale....  the GTI is having bladder issues.  Well, more to the point it seems not to be keeping the damp outside from getting inside.  Is this a common issue, and does VW normally sort this out under warranty?  At first we thought the heater unit was dribbling, but after drying out the car it's got damp front & rear floor on the passenger side (the side which usually faces the onslaught of the south westerly weather on the drive....)

The door seals can come adrift from the doors allowing water ingress as the seals are only glued in place. VW know about this and fix them under warranty. Some cars under heavy driving rain can also leak through the front edge of the windows. You'd know if the windows were leaking through though as you would see the water streaks down the inside of the windows. I've not heard of any other leaks that the MKV is prone to apart from these, but yours does seem to be extreme, so my first guess would be the door seals.

Think we've found the issue.  Dad had a new screen fitted recently by autoglass and it looks like, after checking the carpets up the passenger side footwell, it's leaking down from the bottom nearside corner of the screen.  New screen being done under guarentee by Autoglass but it looks like the fitter scrimped on the black gunky stuff which has allowed water in.

Cowboys... They were the reason my car leaked as well.
Only 250.1bhp - but with that noise, who cares?

Compensation required as you could easily claim for a new interior trim. The sound deadening could also be waterlogged and that can stink badly after a few weeks
