rear central locking (safe) motor error on a 5dr GTI
« on: January 07, 2015, 08:57:48 am »
Hi all,

My vag com is showing

Address 72: Door, Rear Right        Labels: 1K0-959-704-GEN3.lbl
   Part No SW: 1K0 959 704 K    HW: 1K0 959 704 K
   Component: Tuer-SG         006 1207
   Coding: 0000144
   Shop #: WSC 01279 785 1012552
   VCID: 3979CB6F70AC49D693D-806C

1 Fault Found:
00099 - Rear Right Central Locking (Safe) Motor (V164)
012 - Electrical Fault in Circuit - Intermittent

yet when I ebay search for 1K0 959 704 K its coming up with
http://www.ebay.co.uk/itm/VW-GOLF-MK5-SKODA-OCTAVIA-RIGHT-DRIVER-SIDE-REAR-DOOR-WINDOW-MOTOR-1K0959704K-/321568619114?pt=UK_CarsParts_Vehicles_CarParts_SM&hash=item4adefbba6a

which seems to be a different part too

http://smg.photobucket.com/user/Matt.H/media/Door%20Module%20Replacement/IMG_5357.jpg.html
this part seems to match more whats on http://www.my-gti.com/wp-content/uploads/volkswagen_golf_jetta_mirror_removal_14.jpg

So I'm confused on which part I need to replace.....

I should say that the rear door lock does stick from time to time and if I clear this fault code it comes back once I lock and unlock the car.  I have not issues with the window motor or function that seems fine.

I should add my GTI is a 57Reg if that makes any difference.

TIA
Paul

The window motor/module is what controls the rear door lock thats what the fault code is stored in (black box attached to motor) you need a new/2nd hand rear door lock which you have to take the outer door skin off to replace

the safe motor is the dead lock motor/solenoid on its way out, thats whats throwing up the fault

ok thanks that makes some sense and might be a slightly easier replacement (than messing with the glass/winding mechanisim)

How do I know which part number is correct for a new/2nd hand rear door lock, as thats not listed on the vag com (sorry being a newbie)

This looks correct, but just a bit nervous of buying something based on them telling me it will fit !

thanks again

Paul

i'd defo buy it 30 quid for new one fyi 146 ish quid from VW over here

no coding needed although you may want to cancel the fault code so if it goes in for service they don't think there is still a fault, other than that all good
Loads of extra's and retro fits.

This is worth a read

I've fitted both OEM and EBay both worked and side by side looked identical to me!
