MK5 GTI brake upgrade options?

Not sure weather its just my car or all GTI's but the brakes dont seem the greatest if im honest!

Is there any OEM upgrades ie R32 that is a worthy upgrade? also ive got the 18" monza's so is there any issues with clearance?

R32 / S3 is a great improvement on road but can run out of headroom on track depending on you and your available power.

Yeh the standard brakes are a bit pants really, R32 setup is a big improvement but as above can fade when really pushed, also they can fit behind almost any wheel inc a few 17" wheels.

the standard GTI set up isnt the greatest. R32 set up is good for stage 1. If you want more power look at the TTRS brakes from Alex at aks tuning.

Cheers guys for the replies.. theres a couple of sets of S3 front brake set ups for around £500 i think.. sounds about right?

Yeh depending on condition and life left in pads/ discs anything between £350 and £500 is pretty reasonable.

For £500 I would expect nearly new pads/ discs and calipers in very good condition.

With regards to the R32 upgrade, you may want to consider the following;

Mk5 Golf R32 - Blue calipers
Audi S3/Mk6 R - Black calipers
Seat Leon Cupra - Red calipers

Also, if you want that bit extra performance, look at getting some 340mm TTS brake discs, a few kilograms lighter than the OEM 345mm discs. Some decent pads will also be worth spending the extra on too.

Are all these brake setups all the same specs 345mm? I agree the brakes are naff on my ed30 and again prefer red calipers but takes nothing to spray then up properly?

The S3/ R32 and Cupra 345mm setups are exactly the same except the colour.

There aren't very many Cupra's so that's probably why, I noticed the same when I was looking

The S3/ R32 and Cupra 345mm setups are exactly the same except the colour.

S3 & Golf R / Scirocco R 345mm calipers have little wings at either end, makes them look a bit bigger 

The R32 & a Cupra calipers don't have this. Makes no difference to the performance of the caliper though

Also if you're after a bargain the Mk2 TT V6 brakes tend to go cheaper than the others but are the same 345mm setup, a set of pagid discs from eurocar parts won't cost much more than £100 so would highly reccomend new pads and discs, using used can be a problem unless you get them setup exactly as they came off the car, I.e. which pads and discs came off which side
