Why not buy an R32 and swap out the V6 for a 4 pot Edition 30 or S3 motor?! No need for all that body & suspension work.
Just a thought....

Because car tax on an r32 is higher

Just a buy a MK6 R.
Be cheaper in the long run.

yeap but ANYONE can do that, too easy.

It's on my list.  :innocent:

How does yours handle at the moment?

Really REALLY well.

Yes there is too much power for a FWD car but once rolling she's as planted as anything with 4WD. The progressive linear map from R-Tech is the greatest mod I have so that helps. She is still raw compared to a nicely sorted "out of the box" 4WD VW or AUDI but that's one of the attractions for me.

I think £2k all in should be achiveable from start to finish for parts and labour. If I decided to go BT with WMI then I'd def do it.

What about some sticky rubber and a diff? Pikey on here and Ryan from Midnight Garage are running 500+ with just the front wheels driven...

That's the other option and probalby a similar price!

So pretty much there both going to cost the same sort of price to do, ones just going to take longer than the other!
I have a custom r32 style exhaust on mine, would that be in the way?

Yes the rear section of the exhaust needs to be routed differently.. Just keep it fwd it will make the car slower going 4wd in a straight line

But if I get a bigger turbo running over 400bhp it'll be quicker still!

When I had my ed30 with H&R handling mods it was very nimble & felt very planted going round corners, the golfR is a VERY different story cause its heavier,I did the same handling mods to it & it still felt different compared to the ed30

A decent 6R is at least £10k more than an ed30 these days. . . I doubt the conversion would cost more than £4k

It will yes, i guess its just peoples preferences and driving styles.. i ran 470 with 1.5 bar of boost and in no way did i feel it had to much power especially on the road and i dont tend to use 1st and 2nd anyway

Only from a launch and lower speeds... From a roll its just extra weight and transmission loss.

http://www.mk5golfgti.co.uk/forum/index.php/topic,70633.0.html - Work in progress but gives you a good idea what's involved in a job like this.

It's a split opinion about going 4 wheel drive, like the age old "manual vs. DSG" debate. End of the day, if you want it, do it. Life's too short to be sensible all the time...
