Newbie from Berkshire
« on: December 30, 2014, 08:24:56 pm »
Hi all hope you all had a great Christmas and none of you was on the naughty list lol.

Shall I start with a little about me: we'll my name is mark and I'm from Berkshire. I'm 27 and a met technician in a bodyshop. I love cars and am very much into motorcycles.

I purchased my GTI about 6 months ago which I love although it does feel a bit flat but I have a GFB DV+ ready to fit to it. Also I'm ordering the parts to fix the PVC problem and do a service in the next week or so. The car is completely standard but a few bits might be on the cards. Just had my rusty wings done by ridgeway in Newbury which they have royally stuffed up. Wrong colour, scratched both headlights, gaps are huge it was just a really poor job :(

I also have a Yamaha R6 which is a lot of fun and I enjoy using on those summer days.

I've owned a few cars now my first being a Peugeot 205 1.1,
Then I got myself a ford focus ( this spent more time on axle stands than on the road lol)
Then I bought a Saxo vts from a friend( yes we have all had 1 lol.
Then I went for an Astra VXR which I had running 288BHP and 330ftIb torque ( killed the vauxhall chocolate gearboxes) I kind of wrote this off.
Once I wrote the VXR off I went and brought a Nissan pulsar gtir now this little car was a rocket but was a nightmare to work on and I ended up exporting it to Switzerland
I then got a mk4 gutted I as a work horse but was really surprised with the 60mpg so ended up keeping this for about 2 years until I brought the GTI.

We'll this is a little about me and I hope you all have a happy new year :)

Hopefully those links worked lol

HAHAHAHAHA

i missed that.
Rigdeway are terrible. bunch of pricks.

They did the front bumper, wings and bonnet on my GTI
Wings were done "under warranty" although I had to pay £450 for the bonnet and bumper to be sprayed first or they wouldn't replace the wings.
The overall paint itself wasn't too bad although I did notice
Paint run on bottom of one arch
sanding marks all over the bonnet which were originally masked with filling oils only when I did IPA wipedown did they appear.
Poor fitting of wings (very poorly aligned).
overspray over the whole car and wheels.

I went back and reasonably complained (nicely) and asked them to put it right.
I was told by Sean/Shaun whatever the short barstewardss name was that I was being

"arrogant"
"too picky"
"it's not a rolls royce it's not going to be perfect"
"complaining for the sake of it"
"was not welcome to use their courtesy car"
"my whole car had been painted" (It hadn't, all paint was FACTORY i had checked with paint depth gauges)

Joking (in line with Edition 38 forum banter) I said to my friend we should "PTLB" (poop through the letter box) which they found because they looked me up online, they phoned me at 8am with one of their managers demanding I attend a meeting discussing my posts online.
I refused and told them I was only sharing my views and would not be changing anything.

in the end i wetsanding the bonnet and realigned the wings myself on my driveway.
.
Later on one of my best mates partners ended up working there as a receptionist and they found out we knew each other, they told her that I was lying about the experience, trespassed and took lots of photos to make Ridgeway look bad and was marked on their systems as a difficult customer (one to avoid) or something like that.

he actual photo they were referring to when me and 2 friends went along to take some photos just after I put air on the car..we parked nose to tail infront of their building cos it has a big VW logo on it... in public property on a publicly accessible business park.

Some of the pictures have been deleted because imageshack ruined everyones lifes.

Thanks for the welcom guys.

Might have to take you up on that mate

They are terrible mate and the worst thing is that I told them that I work in a body shop so the knew that I knew what I was looking at. Also considering that it went in due to corrosion they never put cavity wax on the inside of the new wings to stop it happening again.

One to avoid haha. They prob have that about me now as they said volks won't pay for blends so I told them they should have painted it the right colour in the first place and it now goes back in on 12 jean to be done again.
Xjay1377 looking at your pics I think I saw your car at dubs at the park 2014 and fell in love with it  :happy2:

 :surprised: :surprised: :surprised: :surprised:

Jeeez, I had heard stories, but phuk sake, an approved bodyshop would say that to a customer

I complain if I have one little fishy eye in any of my customers cars , (very rarely happens), and don't get me started on "blending" to match....

I feel for you.

BTW OP  Welcome.

So now they are painting the bonnet I had some repairs done as there was a dent like a golf ball and where people pressed on the bonnet to close it.

I now have to drive round like this for a couple of weeks  :rolleye:
