Cambelt Squeak on 07 ED30 cold start up
« on: January 06, 2015, 11:09:04 pm »
Hi guys,

Seems my car has started to develop the cambelt squeak as seen in this thread - http://www.mk5golfgti.co.uk/forum/index.php/topic,10091.0.html

does anybody know how much it costs to get that job done at the stealers and at an independent specialist these days as my car is obviously out of warranty.

Thanks in advance :happy2:

More often than not it turns out to be the aux belt squeezing. In my experience anyway.

If the cambelt is due then definitely have it done though.  I believe Eco tune are a popular vag tuner / specialist in Scofland

From the VW main dealers your looking at around £450 ish if you get your Waterpump done at the same time (a good idea).

From a decent Indy..........less.

My car has also developed a bit of a squeak since the cold weather, mostly on startup but once or twice I've still been able to hear it when the car is fully warmed up.

Is there any way to easily check if its the cambelt or something else? Are there any other common causes?

Sorry for the hijack

Start up squeal could also come from the auxiliary belt tensioner or the alternator clutch pulley...
Without traction power is nothing!
